Project intro

A corporate site built for growth, change, and what comes next.

Modine is a 100+ year-old global thermal management company with more than 11,000 employees and operations across four continents. A strategic transformation had reorganized the business into roughly nine independent lines of business, each operating with its own go-to-market strategy. But the corporate website still reflected the old structure, organized around internal divisions rather than the visitors trying to navigate it. Finding corporate information was difficult. Getting to the right business vertical site was harder.

What Modine needed wasn't just a redesigned website. They needed a partner with the technical depth to meet enterprise IT security requirements, the strategic thinking to build an information architecture that could serve many audiences at once, and the commitment to stick around and keep improving it over time.

  • A global company, restructured

Modine had reorganized from a centralized company into roughly nine independent business verticals, each with its own go-to-market strategy. The corporate website hadn't kept up, and it showed.

  • Hard to find, harder to navigate

Visitors searching for corporate information or trying to reach a specific business vertical ran into dead ends. The site was organized around how Modine worked internally, not around what anyone outside the company actually needed.

  • A website problem that required a real partner

Between enterprise IT security requirements, a decentralized stakeholder group, and a business that was actively evolving, Modine needed more than a vendor. They needed someone invested in the long game.

Before – Built for Internal Structure

  • Organized around internal business divisions
  • Visitors had to understand Modine's structure to navigate
  • Hard to find corporate information
  • No clear path to business vertical sites
  • Didn't reflect Modine's new purpose or reorganization

Now – Organized for User Journeys

  • Organized around what visitors are actually looking for
  • Clear corporate narrative and brand story
  • Direct, easy access to all business vertical sites
  • Navigation built for multiple audiences at once
  • Ongoing maintenance and support from a trusted partner
  • Continual improvements driven by data

The Problem

One centralized hub for a deliberately decentralized enterprise.

A website that couldn't keep up with a company mid-transformation

Modine had reorganized around roughly nine independent lines of business, each with its own markets and go-to-market strategy. The corporate site hadn't kept pace -- visitors ran into an architecture built for a version of Modine that no longer existed.

Nine independent businesses, one front door, no clear way in

Each business vertical operated independently, but modine.com gave visitors no intuitive path to find what they were looking for. The information architecture reflected how Modine was organized internally, not how its audiences actually navigated.

Enterprise IT requirements that ruled out most vendors

As a publicly traded global manufacturer, Modine required SOC2 compliance from any agency managing its corporate web presence. Meeting that bar while still building what marketing needed wasn't a given.

A content management problem hiding in plain sight

The corporate site needed to surface news from across the Modine portfolio without creating a duplicate entry burden. An RSS-based aggregation approach kept content current automatically, without adding to the internal team's workload.

A company that keeps evolving and needs a digital partner who can too

From elevating business vertical sites to align with the new corporate standard, to supporting a full rebrand triggered by a major divestiture, Modine needed a partner who could stay in step with the business long after launch day.

The Solution

Redesigned for clarity. Elevated for impact. Built to keep getting better.

An information architecture built around how users think

Modine's business model -- spanning markets, verticals, industries, and solutions -- is genuinely complex. We worked through the jargon collaboratively with the client to build an IA that made sense to visitors first, and reflected the business structure second.

A design system built for flexibility and brand consistency

Rather than a rigid template, we built a custom block-based design system that gave content editors the flexibility to build pages without breaking the brand. Clean lines, considered typography, and a distinctive visual approach.

Radical content reduction, done deliberately

Simplifying the navigation started with simplifying the content. With a shared goal to dramatically reduce what was on the site, we helped the client cut with confidence -- keeping only what served the user and removing everything that didn't.

Custom RSS news aggregation across a decentralized portfolio

Modine's business verticals publish news independently. Rather than duplicate content entry across sites, we built a custom PHP solution to aggregate RSS feeds from across the portfolio into a single, manageable news hub.

Trusted maintenance, support, and ongoing improvement

A launch isn't the finish line. Since going live, we've been Modine's ongoing digital partner -- handling maintenance, implementing continual improvements, and staying close enough to the business to move fast when priorities shift.

Two halves of the Modine 'Who We Are' page: a hero over an archival photo and data center imagery, followed by 'Business Built On Innovation,' a blue 'What We Do' band, and Modine's Purpose, Mission, and Values icon grids; the second half shows an 'Our Legacy' accordion, a company and technology history timeline starting in the 1916–1930s, a related news row, and Investors and Careers footer callouts.
"About Modine call-to-action banner with a short company description and a red 'Learn More About Us' button on the left, and a curved-edge photo of the Modine headquarters entrance with the American and Modine flags flying on the right."

The Partnership

The relationship grew. So did the work. Now we're building what comes next.

What started as a single corporate website redesign has grown into something much larger. Modine trusted Lightburn with more of their digital portfolio, and when a major business transformation required a brand-new site on a tight timeline, we were ready to deliver.

Ongoing support across modine.com

Since launch, we've handled maintenance, monitoring, and continual improvement on the corporate site -- keeping it healthy, current, and evolving alongside the business.

A growing digital portfolio

The relationship expanded to additional properties: a significant brand refresh and site updates for Modine HVAC, and ongoing maintenance and improvements for Modine Coils.

A new corporate site, already in motion

When Modine divested its Performance Technologies segment, the Climate Solutions business needed a new digital identity to match. We're currently leading that redesign, from discovery through development, with a target launch of October 2026.
